OFFICER CANDIDATE SCHOOL

This test will introduce you to the way that the United Federated Planets, Starfleet Command operates. It will insure that you read the manuals needed for you to become knowledgeable in UFP and it's Starfleet Command daily operations. All crew members who wish to become an officer in the UFP Starfleet Command above the rank of Ensign Junior Grade are required to take and pass this test. All officers of the UFP Starfleet Command who have received a field promotion must take and pass this test to retain the rank they hold as an officer over that of Ensign Junior Grade. Please place all answers on a separate sheet of paper with your name, rank and serial number in the top right hand corner if you take this exam off-line.

If you are taking it on-line I suggest that you print off the exam so you have a copy to work from since all materials are on the web site, mark the answers on the printed copy and the go back to the on-line exam, copy it and paste it on your e-mail screen, put in the answers beside the A= and then send it in that way to mikeferg1@yahoo.com with the header of Officer Candidate Exam. 01. No officer of command rank shall be removed from command status unless such action has the complete and unqualified agreement of at least three senior officers present. Whenever possible, such officers shall include the ship's First Officer, Chief Medical Officer, a Ship's Counselor and one junior officer of command station

02. It is forbidden for an officer or enlisted member of Starfleet Command, or it's affiliates, to instigate or in any way participate in any form of mutiny or treason against a senior ranking officer or the governing body or members of the United Federated Planets.

03. No officer or enlisted person of Starfleet Command, or any of it's affiliates or divisions, may interfere with the normal development of a civilization. Regardless of it's culture, technology, cosmology or philosophies. This restriction applies to identification of self as a member of a technological advanced race. No advanced technology is to be demonstrated or used in view or perception of any individual of a less advanced civilization.

04. The primary responsibility of the commander of any Starfleet Command vessel is the welfare and safety of his/her crew, including any civilian members of the ship or installation's compliment. No action may be taken that creates an unwarranted threat to the safety of those individuals under the officer's charge except in the line of duty and when otherwise unavoidable.

11. We will meet once a month to conduct a regular chapter business meeting and to discuss STAR TREK happenings. We may also engage in other STAR TREK related activities at the meetings at the discretion of the membership.

12. The Commanding Officer is empowered by Starfleet Command regulations to make all decisions regarding all aspects of his chapter's operations. The Commanding Officer is, therefore, solely responsible for the activities and status of the chapter.

Due to recent findings concerning "second hand smoke" it has been determined by this command that smoking at official UFP Starfleet Command functions will be done in a specifically designated area in respect for the non-smoking crew members. The intent of this regulation is not to penalize the smokers but rather to respect the rights of the non-smokers and those who have an allergic reaction to tobacco smoke of any kind.

NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OF ANY TYPE will be brought to or consumed at any official UFP Starfleet Command meeting, party, special activity, community service project or Away Team Mission by any UFP Starfleet Command member or guest, nor will anyone attend under the influence of alcoholic beverage or drugs. This is in accordance with Star Fleet General Order 19. Also just think what the headlines would look like in the newspaper "Trekkie Drunk Driver Kills Family In Drunk Driving Accident", NOT TOO PRETTY!!

15. No crew member of the UFP Starfleet Command should openly discuss the shortcomings or faults of any other crew member while on duty status at meetings, parties, special activities, community service projects or on Away Team Missions. Violations can be punished under SCR25.

ARTICLES OF THE UNITED FEDERATED PLANETS, Give the number for the Article shown below

16. The Articles of the United Federated Planets recognizes the likelihood of major disputes arising between United Federated Planets members or between members and non-members, either of which may threaten the peace and security of the United Federated Planets. In such cases any member or non-member may bring such matters to either the United Federated Planets Council or Assembly for mediation, given that those agree in advance to accept the United Federated Planets impartial resolution of the affair. If necessary, such matters may be referred to the United Federated Planets Judiciary for further arbitration. Should the United Federated Planets Assembly be called upon to hear said dispute, the Assembly can make formal recommendations to the Council for a final disposition of the dispute which shall be binding on all parties.

17. The United Federated Planets recognizes the need for interstellar exploration and expansion, as well as the common desire to seek out and contact undiscovered civilizations and sentient life forms. To this end the United Federated Planets accepts responsibility for administering those regions of space adjacent to established United Federated Planets zones of influence.

18. Given the need for a common defense Starfleet Command is hereby created to coordinate the armed forces of the United Federated Planets, subject to the control of the United Federated Planets Council. This force shall consist of contributions of personnel and materiel from the original member worlds. A central training center will be established to supply the ongoing needs of the fleet. Further expansions of the fleet will be consistent with the needs of the United Federated Planets and will include considerations of exploration and scientific inquiry as well as the maintenance of a strong military presence.

19. Whenever there is clear evidence of hostile acts being carried out against one or more members of the United Federated Planets, the United Federated Planets Council is empowered to decide which actions are appropriate to deal with the situation, short of using armed force. The Council's response may include, but is not limited to, the imposition of economic sanctions and the interruption of trade and/or cultural exchange between member worlds. If such actions are considered inadequate to the existing threat, the United Federated Planets Council may then call upon Starfleet Command to restore peace and security. In the event a United Federated Planets member is the originator of such aggression, no use of force shall be employed, unless said member forfeits the opportunity to negotiate a settlement before the United Federated Planets Assembly.

20. Whenever there arises a conflict of interests between individual United Federated Planets members, the provisions and specifications of the Articles of the United Federated Planets shall take precedence. To exercise their official functions freely, representatives of member worlds to the United Federated Planets Assembly or Council shall have diplomatic immunity from local prosecution if and when said representatives incur infractions of local statutes.
