The Vice President assists the President in the performance of his responsibilities, aids the President with decision making and carries out specific duties as assigned by the President. The Vice President assumes the duties of the President in the event the President is unable to perform his duties or is on vacation. The Vice President works closely with the President and the President's Chief of Staff on a daily basis.
The Vice Presidential Staff
Personal Assistant: This person assists the Vice President with such things as correspondence and preparing for public events.
Press Secretary: Prepares the Vice Presidents speeches, sets up interviews and all news releases.
Secret Service: The Vice President is afforded protection by the Secret Service to keep him from personal harm.
THE SECOND LADY OF THE UNITED FEDERATED PLANETS
The wife of the Vice President of the United Federated Planets has been referred to by the colloquial term, the Second Lady of the United Federated Planets.
The Second Lady is not an elected position, carries no official duties, and brings no salary. Nonetheless, she attends many official ceremonies and functions of state either along with or in place of the Vice President.
The wife of the Vice President is referred to by her married name--the couple is formally referred to as, for example, "The President and Mrs. Washington."
The Second Lady attends many civic functions and makes prepared speeches concerning matters she feels of importance to the United Federated Planets.
